Please Join SeVWA On The Morning of Oct. 5th For The 17th Annual CRWC Source to Sea Cleanup!

Please join SeVWA for Connecticut River Watershed Council’s (CRWC’s) 17th Annual Source to Sea Cleanup!

On the morning of October 5th help us clean-up some of our most favorite local swimming holes and recreational sites along the West River in Brattleboro, Dummerston and Newfane – be a part of making these locations cleaner and safer for those of us that visit and enjoy these sites, for the wildlife too, and to protect the river’s water quality.

Organization: Southeastern Vermont Watershed Alliance (SeVWA)Coordinator:  Laurie Callahan, 802-258-1877 or therivermist@hotmail.com

When:  Sat., October 5th at 9 AM (start at 9 AM, end by noon or earlier)

Where: Meet at Dummerston covered bridge, Rte. 30 to form teams & pick-up supplies; each clean-up team will then go to sites along the West River in Brattleboro, Dummerston and Newfane; total combined number of sites for all teams will be 5. Clean-up will be “on-foot”, not on the water. (Sites will include Williamsville station, Dummerston covered bridge, Deyo’s hole, town of Brattleboro River Park and Retreat Meadows boat access and trail.)

What to bring: We will provide gloves and bags, but you can bring your own gloves if you prefer. Wear sturdy shoes or boots, waterproof if possible; warm layers of clothing; rain jacket (if rain in forecast we will still hold the clean-up event). Bring cell phone or camera to get some photos of your group during the clean-up.

Bonus activity: In order to collect information about invasive plants that are present in the watershed, we will check one or more sites for target species of invasive plants. It will be a good opportunity to learn about invasive plants present in our local area and to discuss what can be done to prevent the spread of those species or to detect species early in order to prevent them from becoming well-established as some invasive species already are in the Brattleboro/Dummerston/Newfane region. This activity will take place after the clean-up is finished – by noon, but probably earlier – and will take about 1-1.5 hours, depending on how many of the 5 sites we visit; participants do not have to visit all sites.
