Tai Chi Chuan (Taiji Quan) otherwise known as Supreme Ultimate Boxing, is an ancient form of martial art that has been practiced for both health and self defense. It can be practiced for recreation, and to increase strength, flexibility, balance well into old age. Tai Chi Chuan is not performed in the same manner as most western calisthenics or sports. It requires a tremendous amount of mental and physical concentration and control. Tai Chi Chuan is often described as a moving meditation. After practice, one feels invigorated, clear-minded, and peaceful.
Beginner’s Tai Chi Chuan/ Taiji Quan is a 14 week series that introduces the principles of alignment, balance, and correct movement. Each week participants will learn a new movement of the tai chi chuan form, learning the complete “short” form by the end of the series. Participants will also learn fa song gong exercises, qigong, wu chi standing and the tai chi walk. All are foundational practices to re-condition the mind/body connection, deepening one’s capacity to relax, release stress, improve balance, and build core strength.
New class series starts Friday February 6th! Class will meet every Friday from 9am-10:15am at the Putney Friends Meeting House : 17 Bellows Falls Rd. Putney, VT. The cost is $215.
