In honor of National Child Passenger Safety Week on September 14-20, 2014, Brattleboro Memorial Hospital is promoting a child car seat inspection service offered free by the State of Vermont to parents and caregivers.
“With a new baby comes a lot of planning and preparation to welcome your new little one into your life,” says Debbie Partrick, RNC, the director of Women’s and Surgical Services at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital. “There are baby showers, decorating the nursery, and getting everything ready. What new parents often forget is thinking about that brand new car seat or a previously used car seat.”
Before a new baby is discharged from the hospital, parents or caregivers need to have the child’s car seat inspected by a Child Passenger Safety (CPS) Technician who is certified by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NTSA).
According to the State of Vermont’s website, “Vermont’s Be Seat Smart campaign and National Child Passenger Safety Week are designed to draw attention to the importance of child safety seats and to help parents understand the 4 Stages of Seat Safety that every child progresses through.”
The CPS technician ensures there are no recalls or safety issues with the car seat, and provides personal instruction on the proper selection, installation, and use of the car seat. This free inspection is available locally at the fitting station at Auto Mall on Putney Road in Brattleboro. Inspections are available by appointment only on Mondays from 3 to 6:00 PM. Auto Mall can be reached at 802-257-5100.
