Groundworks Responds to COVID-19 and Seeks Volunteers

In preparation—and following the guidance recommended for homeless shelters and programs—Groundworks has taken a number of preventive and precautionary steps in response to COVID-19.  Our goal is to protect our community’s most vulnerable neighbors by responding with an abundance of caution, while not contributing to feelings of panic or fear.

Groundworks is working closely with State partners to ensure a strong local response to keep our shelter guests safe.  Our staff at both shelters are engaging in additional cleaning and sanitizing protocols, and we have limited access to restrict any external guests at any of our program sites.  This includes SOS Meal Teams—providing nightly meals at the Seasonal Overflow Shelter—who are now dropping off food to staff on site, rather than serving meals and cleaning up. Foodworks, our food shelf program, will be moving to a food delivery model starting Monday, March 16th.  Staff will be handing out pre-prepared boxes of food for those arriving on-site while this change is being communicated.  Households in need of food will be asked to call Foodworks at 802-490-2412 or email ccolascione@GroundworksVT.org to coordinate delivery.

We are actively preparing a list of volunteers willing to make deliveries and are in urgent need of volunteer support for this.  We have set up protocols to keep staff, volunteers and clients as safe as possible.  Please email us at volunteer@GroundworksVT.org if you are able to help.

We are seeing an increased need for food donations as grocery shelves are becoming increasingly bare.  Donations of food dropped-off to Foodworks will be gratefully accepted. Please call Foodworks or email Christine to arrange drop-off of a food donation.
