The Root Social Justice Center Hosts Opening Celebration on November 1

The Root Social Justice Center is hosting an opening celebration on Friday, November 1 from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. during Gallery Walk. Located on the ground floor of the beautiful Whetstone Studio for the Arts building at 28 Williams Street in Brattleboro, The Root Social Justice Center provides a physically and financially accessible space to support and bring together communities working for social justice. The Root is a co-work office collective by day and a community space on evenings and weekends.

Members of The Root Social Justice Center collective are involved in existing and emerging justice-oriented groups, businesses and organizing projects in the Brattleboro area. The collective includes Alex Fischer of Open Bookkeeping, Mel Motel of the Just Schools Project and Angela Berkfield of ACT for Social Justice.

“I’m excited for there to be an affordable and accessible space in town for people doing social justice work,” Alex Fisher said. “I’m also really excited about the space being financially backed by businesses with social justice missions and striving to create livelihoods that are in line with our values as a way to sustain community organizing.”

On the evenings and weekends, The Root Social Justice Center is available for meetings, workshops, movie screenings, potlucks and other activities. Groups, individuals and organizations can use the space free of charge, although donations are appreciated to help sustain the space.

“When the Catalyst Project came to Brattleboro to facilitate an anti-racism training, the space was perfect. It was open, welcoming and comfortable. Not to mention affordable,” trainer Sara Mehalick said.

Please join us for an evening of celebration, refreshments and activities. All ages, abilities and identities are welcome.
