Post Oil Solutions takes great pleasure in announcing that its monthly Community Meetings will be held in the Brooks Memorial Library meeting room on the 4th Tuesday of each month.
The next meeting will be on Tuesday, April 23, with a special focus on food security, and growing a community of gardeners in the greater Brattleboro region.
We will begin at 6:00 PM, with light refreshments and social time, followed by the meeting from 6:30-8:15 PM.
The purpose of these meetings is to provide an opportunity for Post Oil to engage with members of the larger community around how we can, together, help make our region more resilient and sustainable, collaborative and socially just for the post petroleum world we’ve entered. We will focus on how we can successfully involve our families and neighbors, local businesses and public officials, our churches and schools—how we can engage all members of our community–in this transition.
Examples of some of the projects we are, and would be interested in working on include health and wellness, mutual aid neighborhoods, local food hubs, green transportation, community gardens, buying clubs, (re)connecting to our food and (re)learning to feed ourselves, life beyond consumerism, building the local economy, and, most especially, intentionally bringing everyone to the table.
While the meetings will involve ideas and discussions, their purpose is always to conclude in action, next steps, and just doing it!
The meeting’s agenda is put together by the group that gathers. This will include members of Post Oil’s Board, who will update the group’s projects (e.g., the Winter Farmers Market, Greater Falls Community Garden Collaborative, GMO labeling campaign, etc.), welcoming comments and suggestions from everyone, as well as offers to become involved,
This will also be a time for members of the larger community to present projects of their own–either something new, or in progress—and can do so for the purpose of seeking assistance and participation from the larger gathering.
Additionally, there may be times when the 4th Tuesday will be devoted to a film or special presentation.
While the 4th Tuesday has a very clear purpose for Post Oil—engaging the larger community around projects that help us to successfully transition to a post petroleum world—we are at the same time open and receptive to the many ways that this purpose can be achieved, including all of those that we’ve never thought of! That is why ours is a community meeting. Please join us.
