The Brattleboro Women’s Chorus will present their 23rd annual spring concert, “Walk With Me,” on Mother’s Day weekend at Centre Congregational Church. Joining director Becky Graber and the 80-voice chorus of women will be Cathy Martin on piano and Connie Green on flute.
Last summer, a group of singers from the chorus traveled to Grand Rapids, Michigan to participate in the Sister Singers Festival, a gathering of women’s choruses from across the country. The “Walk With Me” repertoire was inspired by that trip and features songs of travel, migration, community, and home. One of the concert’s songs, “Winnebago” by David Maddux, about an obvious means of hitting the road, was heard at the festival.
The chorus will also sing “The Little Road” by Vermont composer/singer Moira Smiley who led a workshop with the chorus in March. Additional songs include the concert’s title piece “Walk With Me” by Maggie Wheeler, “I’m Gonna Walk It With You” by Brian Clafin and Ellie Grace, and “The Road Home” by Stephen Paulus. There will be two songs arranged by the Natural Voice Practitioner’s Network in England, “Different Ships” and “People Get Ready,” the latter made popular by Curtis Mayfield. And a reprise of “A Garden of My Own” by Patricia McKernon and arranged specifically for the BWC by Daniel Kallman will feature accompanists Cathy Martin and Connie Green.
The concert dates are Saturday, May 11 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 12 at 4:00 p.m. at Centre Congregational Church in downtown Brattleboro. Tickets are available at the door or at https://brattleborowc.brownpapertickets.com, $12 adults, $10 seniors/students, $20 generous.
