World renowned organist returns to Brattleboro to support the Estey Organ Museum. Hans presented a recital on the magnificent Estey pipe organ at First Baptist Church, Brattleboro, Vermont, on Saturday, October 8, 2016.
From China to Canada, Scotland to Australia, England to Singapore, and New Zealand to Germany, Hans U. Hielscher has delighted audiences the world over with his spirited playing, lively personality and entertaining repertoire. Some organists play mainly for other organists; Hans programs and plays for a wider audience of music lovers who want more than just another organ recital. His engaging organ concerts appeal to all ages and are often spiced with characteristic touches of humorous transcriptions of orchestral works. Far from ignoring his audience from the isolation of the loft, he takes them with him to the console.
Hans has been organist at the Marktkirche in Wiesbaden (Lutheran Cathedral), Germany, since 1979. His studies were at the Detmold State Academy of Music and in Paris/Rouen, France. He also studied carillon at The Nederlandse Beiaardschool in Amersfoort, The Netherlands.
Hans has presented more than 3.500 organ recitals around the globe. He has been featured on radio and TV broadcasts, 22 CD recordings on the Motette, Wergo, IFO, Lade labels and is the author of three books. He is a published composer of some 50 works for organ. Hans has been honored by the French government for his worldwide engagement in French organ music and nominated “Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres” in 1985. He is a long-time member of the AGO (American Guild of Organists), OHS (Organ Historical Society), GCNA (Guild of Carillonneurs in North America) and has presented workshops at various AGO National Conventions in recent years.
