The Gaslight Tinkers’ blend of African, Caribbean, funk, reggae and Latin rhythms creates a joyously danceable sound around a core of traditional New England old time and Celtic fiddle music. Touring the East Coast, the West Coast and the Caribbean playing what The Valley Advocate describes as “Music that consistently fizzes and pops with unexpected textures and turns,” The Gaslight Tinkers merge boundless positive energy with melody and song. It’s the genre-bending future of the music of the past.
Peter Siegel (mandolin, guitar, banjo, vocals) and Garrett Sawyer (bass) teamed up to form The Gaslight Tinkers in 2012, drawing from Siegels’ traditional folk music experience and knowledge and Sawyer’s world music roots. A veteran of the folk scene, Siegel has performed with the likes of Pete Seeger and Judy Collins. Sawyer has toured the US and Canada as a member of Senegalese hip-hop band Gokh-Bi System, and throughout the Caribbean performing with Trinidadian soca star Kurt Allen. With bandmates Jopey Fitzpatrick (drums) and Audrey Knuth (fiddle, vocals), The Gaslight Tinkers shake the stage with traditional melodies and world rhythms.
