press release:
2014 Spring Semester
On January 27, Open Music Collective will be starting its spring semester with Vocal Classes and Jazz Ensembles.
The Jazz Vocal Repertoire Class will be held Monday Evenings at 5:00 pm. Compositions of study include music of Duke Ellington, Chick Corea, Earl Zindars, Rodgers and Hart, Hoagy Carmichael, Horace Silver and more. Learning songs, writing charts, working with rhythm sections, counting off tunes and improvising will be covered in all classes. Class has limited room for 6 people and vocalists will be singing with an experienced rhythm section. This class runs for 10 sessions and ends in a concert and is $250 for adults and $200 for students.
Jazz Ensembles will resume on Wednesdays at 5, and Saturdays at 10:30 (discounted youth oriented class). Study jazz by listening to specific pieces, sharing historical information, and playing classic arrangements and compositions in a safe, informative and encouraging environment. Jazz standards and Bebop melodies will be picked for the individual class for a tailored learning experience, all levels.
Frequently the class times change to accommodate students schedules as well as additional class times being added for interested students. Classes are $250 for adults, $200 for students, $180 for the Saturday Youth class, all ensembles run for 10 sessions and end in a concert.
Guitar ensemble is another new offering for Thursday nights at 5 pm. Come work on Baroque, Classical and more modern arrangements for guitar (and limited other instruments). These classes can be exciting and offer a whole new experience for guitarists who have limited experience with reading music in a group. Basic musicianship and a desire to learn are requirements. Guitarists and bassists are encouraged but other instruments are encouraged to enroll, as well. $150 for adults, $125 for students for 10 classes which culminates in a concert.
Private lessons are also offered by Kate Parsons (piano), Riley Goodemote (mandolin, trombone, general brass), Larry Brown (Guitar and Finger picking), Ben Carr (drums and ukulele), Ken and Julie Olsson (Vocal Technique, Classical Voice), Jamie MacDonald (Bass – Upright and Electric, Harmony, Jazz Vocals, Theory, Improvisation all instruments).
