SATURDAY, January 11, 7:30 pm

SUNDAY, January 12, 3 pm

First Baptist Church, 190 Main Street, Brattleboro, VT

Benjamin Britten “Rejoice in the Lamb”

Richard Blackford “Mirror of Perfection”

With extraordinary vision and imagination, Britten sets the ecstatic poetry of Christopher Smart (1722-1771) in the festival cantata Rejoice in the Lamb. The text, written while Smart was in an insane asylum, is both mystic and comic; poignant and exalted.  Richard Blackford’s Mirror of Perfection captures the passion and compassion of the famous saint who was known as a fanatic of love. Blackford takes the little-known poetry of St. Francis of Assisi and builds a powerful cantata of lavish beauty, clothed in a radiance of strings, harp, and horns. Tickets:  $15, $8 students
