Still urgent
I was just reading a report that says increasingly poor kids in the US kids are resorting to trading sex for food, as well as stealing and other petty crimes. Young girls are stripping and performing sex acts in exchange for food (not money, though. They don’t want to be labeled as prostitutes, they said.)
Some kids save their free school lunches for dinner. Others go without food so their younger brothers or sisters can eat. They go to neighbor’s houses for food. Or they just don’t eat at all.
Just how well can someone eat
Just how well can someone eat who has no home and poor transportation? Without a systemic food supply for everyone, I do know programs are needed. However, I can’t believe people do have “awareness” about hunger. Unless a centralized system steps in and creates policy and programs, awareness is a band-aid that will fall off.
Hopefully the "Call to
Hopefully the “Call to Action” is more than a slogan. It has potential – get the right people in a room and things can happen – if they want them to.
I meant to write...
However, I can’t believe people do not already have “awareness” about hunger.
[In a lot of ways awareness meet ups are slogan-ism with sluggish results – no to be too critical, but I’ve seen the awareness programs my whole life…]
baby steps
Perhaps we should bring awareness to this awareness problem. : )
I think it takes a steady campaign of awareness plus real work, effort, desire to make this different. There are people who are in positions to make substantive changes that would improve lives for many. Not you or me, but they are out there. That person who just bought a yacht or a third home on an island made a choice.
I think what you might be noticing is that all of us folks making less than a million or two a year are very aware, but we all have limited resources to do the big things necessary. So we meet and discuss.
Baby steps are still steps, and they do eventually reach goals. It’s just easier when someone who is able picks you up and puts you that much closer to the finish line.
"bring awareness to this awareness problem. : )"
lol !
True. Well, the cold weather (even if milder) is coming, and food, clothing and shelter needs are real.
