US Media Worships Republicans

If one looked at recent major media, one conclusion that could be reached is that only Republicans are running for office. There are endless stories about Trump, Carson, Cruz, Rubio, Bush, Graham, and the others. They get headlines and air time for simply existing. They get featured on Sunday political shows, and discussed and promoted by the Washington insiders and elite, as if nothing else was happening. All republicans are “serious candidates” even if they have no visible support.

One might think that Democrats no longer exist. But this is silly. Vermont’s Bernie Sanders just broke a record for having 2 million online donations, more than any other candidate ever. He also just picked up the endorsement of an enormous union, the Communications Workers of America. And poll after poll show that he would trump Trump at the polls.

(And there’s some other gal and guy running as Democrats, too, so I’ve been told.)

Any good reporter could look at the money, the supporters, and the polls and see something worth reporting about Democrats. But go look at the news. To find any of this one has to dig and dig, and some “news” outlets don’t have any of this information available.

I’d go a bit further, too, and say that news in general is becoming more difficult to find. Frequently I know something happened or is happening, and can’t find coverage anywhere. I have no firm data, but I feel as if it is harder to find news these days. There is a lot of distraction provided with trivia at major news operations. Two thirds of the Washington Post above-the-fold homepage as I write this are used by a story about eating out in DC and an advertisement. Above this is an ad for Post games and puzzles.

Why does the media worship Republicans, no matter how little real support they have?

  • Follow the $

Every last thing in the US is about money. Media is owned, and its owners tell it what to report on. It harkens back to the days of tabloid yellow journalism. Except that these days there is nothing but tabloid yellow journalism.

    • Answer is always money

Isn’t funny that whenever one says “that’s messed up” and asks why, the answer is always money.

(Money being human invention that isn’t necessary for life, until recently)

  • Barter to cash

Money is just an extension of bartering. We’ve been placing or assigning a value to and/or on everything for a long time.

Sharing, that preceded bargaining and money, is stuck in the backseat.

  • The lack of coverage of

The lack of coverage of Bernie Sanders is infuriating. He is the frontrunner in NH, has enormous support, 2 million + contributions, yet CNN and others report nothing. The major media continually exhibits a lack of journalistic integrity and total bias which undermines the democratic principles of our countrys’ election process.

I hope Bernie upsets the major media’s assumptions/biases and wins.
It would throw it in their face, showing that we don’t need the major media to create a successful citizen-driven political revolution in the U.S.

Bernie epitomizes decency, integrity and great values. He is the only candidate worth voting for in my opinion.

  • It's all good news for Sanders

I can understand the people who are “infuriated” by the lack of media coverage of Bernie’s campaign. But really, it’s all good for Bernie. It so much better to have the dimwits of the national media, who all seem to be driven by trope and trouble, sitting around bloviating about Trump, Carson, and that Canadian fellow – whatsisname? Cruz? – than filling the airwaves with their interpretation of “Democratic Communism” or whatever the hell knot they’d twist his politics into.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the Republicans choose Herr Donald, and the media ignores Bernie until it’s too late for them to prop Clinton up.

  • A whisper from overseas

British media, the Guardian, has some Sanders and Clinton stories today. Maybe they read this. Poor O’Malley.

    • What a difference a day makes

Yesterday Bernie was deep in media blackout, one whiff of scandal and he’s all over the media. I bet O’Malley’s looking around for an intern to grope so he can get a little media attention.

  • The herders are running the show

Hillary Clinton will be president. Trump’s been planted in the race to disrupt the republican party and cause such discourse that the sheeple will lean left. BUT, the puppet masters will never allow Sanders to be president because he threatens their corporate interests with his rhetoric.
The “herders” want status quo. A mindless tax base to keep the machine rolling.

    • There's no use in predicting this fickle electorate, but...

…Mr. Mike, but if I had to, I’d subscribe to your comment, with reservations, that I never trust or underestimate this electorate and I’d never trust or underestimate the Bush cabal.

    • wild horse race

I saw an interesting comment somewhere yesterday: Bernie, and Trump run as independents, Hillary and (?) run as big party candidates…then things would get interesting!

  • Imagine if FDR was running for President today

Imagine if FDR was running for President of the United States today. He would be ignored by the Media, sabotaged by the Democratic Party, excluded from the debates, despised by the banks and the corporations, and receive not one penny of campaign contributions from millionaires and billionaires but only their unabated hatred.
