On Wednesday, September 26, 2018 the public is invited to explore historic preservation with the Brattleboro Planning Services Department and members of local boards and commissions. Devin Colman, State Architectural Historian, will lead a walking tour of two neighborhoods listed as historic districts on the National Register of Historic Places. He will then make a presentation about Vermont’s Certified Local Government program.
At 5:00 P.M., come explore the Homestead-Horton and Clark-Canal historic districts. Discover—or rediscover– the unique character of these neighborhoods and see architectural features and details that are important to defining the character of buildings in these neighborhoods. This walking tour will depart from the Canal Street Schoolhouse, located at 112 Canal St.
At 6:00 P.M., the evening will continue in the Selectboard Meeting room at the Brattleboro Municipal Center. Should Brattleboro become a Certified Local Government (CLG)? Be a part of the conversation and learn about the intent, details on how the program works, and the resources that are available to Vermont’s CLGs.
Devin Colman is the State Architectural Historian at the Vermont Division for Historic Preservation, where he has worked since 2006. In this role, he is responsible for identifying and documenting historic resources throughout the state and oversees the State and National Register of Historic Places programs. Devin earned his BA in Art History at Colby College, and his MS in Historic Preservation at the University of Vermont. He and his family live in Burlington.
