Back in the ‘60s, I attended a conference of Electrical Utilities.
The conference was held in Lake George, NY, and the two keynote speakers were Nelson Rockefeller, then Governor of New York, and the newly elected Governor of Vermont, Phil Hoff.
Rockefeller was the first to arrive, and, arrive he did, with a huge entourage.
The “car-valcade” was led by a phalanx of State Troopers on Harleys, followed by about a half dozen large cars.
“Nellie the Rock” came along next in a three-block long limousine.
Another 6 cars followed with another phalanx of motorcycle cops bringing up the rear.
The whole parade must have been a half-mile long.
Shortly thereafter, a lone Vermont State Police cruiser arrived.
A passenger emerged from the front seat.
It was Phil Hoff!
RIP Phil.
