It makes Charle’s last message with instructions to the children rather poignant, telling them to behave. It was unusually detailed instruction. Perhaps he had a sense of what was coming.
Even though it was 150 years ago, the news hits hard.
Prescient
Interesting that he suddenly felt a need to dash off a quick letter while the mail carrier was there.
I also kind of wondered, with the remark about bad language, if he had received a mail about one of his sons saying something he shouldn’t have, as little boys tend to do!
