I disagree that history teaches very little, though. It teaches almost everything. Try explaining anything without referencing the past. Everything today rests on what was done before, good and bad.
And, it sure is interesting.
My resistance to the supposed lesson
My resistance to the supposed lesson is two fold. The first that the past is sometimes used to deny the possibility of a different future and indeed to confine that future, by those who sometimes want to maintain the current state of affairs.
The other reason is that I have a hard science orientation, and don’t believe in the ability of social “scientists” to describe a given situation accurately, never mind find a true replicate. Without replicates, very little can be said definitively.
But, I steered to the right of Sting, who famously sang, “History Teaches Nothing” which is just silly.
Have your day be so good that it is historically speaking, great.
