On Saturday night, November 8th Sounds True recording artist Yofiyah brings her Kabbalah Kirtan ensemble to the Vermont Jazz Center in Brattleboro, Vermont. Kabbalah Kirtan is a unique fusion of Jewish, Middle Eastern and Indian melodies with audience participation via call-and-response singing, along with musical accompaniment.
“Kabbalah Kirtan brings a musical experience that joyously celebrates ´da ´at d´vekut´, union with the oneness of all.”, explains Yofiyah. Revered Rabbi Zalman M. Schachter-Shalomi called Yofiyah and her style of Kabbalah Kirtan “A marvelous gateway to the spirit, a true energizer of the soul.”
The event starts at 7:00 pm with an introduction to Kirtan and a review of the simple chants that are the foundation of the form. The music follows at 8:00 pm. Yofiyah leads the singing and is accompanied by a variety of musicians including Alan Deikman on harmonium and area musicians Stephan Brandstatter on percussion and Daniel Kasnitz on bass.
“There will be both seats and floor space available for those who want to bring a mat or pillow, plus plenty of room for dancing” says Brandstatter. “Whether you want to listen, join in singing, or dance, this event is a perfect choice to warm you up on a chilly, November evening! We will have tasty snacks and refreshments available, the evening is family friendly and the venue is fully handicapped accessible. The Brattleboro Area Jewish Community is producing this event. We want to give special thanks to the Vermont Jazz Center for their kind support.”
