Ken Burns to appear October 19, 7:30 p.m.
For Immediate Release – Latchis Arts invites the community to a Grand Re-Opening Benefit at the Latchis Theatre in downtown Brattleboro. This event will mark the public’s first glimpse of the renovations that have taken place since the theatre was closed for construction on August 1, 2013.
Ken Burns, long-time friend of the Latchis, will celebrate the re-opening by screening Episode 5 1933-1939 “The Rising Road” of The Roosevelts: An Intimate History.
Ken’s appearance at the Grand Re-Opening is a benefit for Latchis Arts’ Campaign for The Heavens and The Earth. Dedication by the community allowed Latchis Arts to raise the bulk of $550,000 to transform the historic art deco theatre with comfortable new seating, a refreshed zodiac array on a midnight blue sky, ADA and safety upgrades, and enhanced lighting throughout. With less than $30,000 to go, the campaign is definitely nearing the finish line.
The entire seven-episode series will be released in 2014 on PBS. Earlier episodes include Roosevelt cousin and uncle, Theodore. Episode 5 “The Rising Road” was chosen for the Grand Re-Opening to coincide with the history of the 1938 Latchis Theatre.
Ken Burns will introduce Episode 5 “The Rising Road” and answer questions afterwards.
Tickets to The Roosevelts: An Intimate History are $40, general seating in any of the beautiful new orchestra or balcony seats. Tickets are available at Brattleborotix.com and at the Latchis Hotel.
Be among the first to sit in the new seats and gaze upon the magnificent zodiac sky. You will not want to be anywhere else on October 19.

Ken Burns is fine, but...
The Latchis is the star of this show, in my book. For many years we’ve looked up at the rotting ceiling from our broken chairs and wondered how nice it must have been when it opened.
Now we get to have the experience that the first patrons of the room once had.
New marquee, new seats, new ceiling, new projection… quite a feat. The Latchis really is a treasure.
