Minutes — January 08, 2025
In person and via ZOOM only
Directors present: Anne Beekman, Tim Maciel (via zoom), Shaun Murphy, Deborah Stanford
Directors absent: Kerry Amidon
Also present: Mark Speno, Tate Erickson.
CALL TO ORDER—5:00 p.m. — Anne Beekman
On a motion by Deborah Stanford, the board approved the Consent Agenda as presented.
Public Comment – there was none
Administrative Report – Mark reported on the upcoming winter data benchmark meetings and the goal setting plans for the spring for both individual students and schools. Peer observation will be used on the principal level which is new.
Mark presented a job description for the new position of school nutrition director and the board discussed the position and asked questions.
On a motion by Shaun Murphy the board approved the job description for the school nutrition director.
The board reviewed a first draft of a new policy on the evaluation of the Superintendent and negotiation process. The chair will check in with the VES board chair and then have the policy reviewed by legal.
On a motion by Deborah Stanford the board approved the following policies for adoption:
● D1 Personnel Recruitment, Selection, Appointment and Background Checks
● D2 Professional Development
● D4 Educator Supervision and Evaluation: Probationary Teachers
● F4 Searches, Seizures, and Interrogation of Students by School Personnel
● F5 Searches, Seizures, and Interrogation of Students by Law Enforcement Personnel or Other Non-School Personnel
● F22 Student Assessment
The following policies were presented for a second reading:
● E14 Environmental Awareness and Responsibility
● F26 Participation of Home Study Students in School Programs and Activities (adopted by WSESD 05/28/2024)
● F42 Student Dress Code (adopted by WSESD 07/25/2023)
The following policies were presented for a first reading:
● G1 Curriculum Development and Coordination (Adopted by WSESD 04/09/2024)
● G13 Acceptable Use of Electronic Resources and the Internet (Adopted by WSESD 08/13/2024)
As with all policies, board members are encouraged to ask any questions of the Policy Committee.
On a motion by Deborah Stanford the board voted to enter into Executive Session under 1 VSA 313 (a) (7) Academic Records or Suspension of students at 5:31 pm.
The board rose from Executive Session with no action taken.
On a motion by Deborah Stanford, the board voted to adjourn.
