Calling All Kids: It’s OK To Talk About Death!

Parents and children are invited on Saturday, September 26, 10:30 – 12:00, to a free workshop, Calling all Kids: It’s OK to Talk about Death! at Brooks Memorial Library Upstairs Meeting Room (next to the Children’s Section).

Children who have experienced a death loss, whether of a beloved pet, friend or family member, don’t often have the opportunity to meet with other children who’ve had a similar experience. Through facilitated art activities and guided conversation led by Children’s Bereavement Counselor Elizabeth Ungerleider, this is an opportunity for children of all ages to ask questions, share stories and express feelings in a safe environment.

This free event is sponsored by Brattleboro Area Hospice as part of Wellness in Windham County. Brattleboro Area Hospice is an independent, non-profit volunteer organization that provides support to dying and grieving community members. Visit www.brattleborohospice.org to learn more about the organization.

For more information about this free workshop and to register, contact Elizabeth Ungerleider at (802) 258-0763.

  • Some kids do

We were at the Future Fest carnival on Sunday and saw a group called Caveboy which consisted of two boys (one on guitar, the other on Pan pipes) singing songs about Greek mythology. I would be surprised if either boy was older than 10. Oddly enough, one of their songs was about what happens when you die (in ancient Greece). The lyric rather astonished us — all about how you die and they lay you out and put a coin in your mouth and then you go to Hades. Their other song had something to do with Athena, if I’m remembering correctly.
