Electric Vehicle Fair Showcases Benefits of EVs

Are you thinking about buying or leasing an electric car or bicycle, or interested in learning about the benefits of EV ownership? Come to the Electric Vehicle Demonstration & Forum on Saturday, October 25th from 3:00 pm – 5:30 pm at the Marlboro College Graduate School, 28 Vernon Street in downtown Brattleboro. A wide range of all-electric and plug-in hybrid cars, along with electric-assisted bikes, cargo bikes and electric scooters will be on display and available for test rides in the parking lot from 3:00 – 4:30 pm. Electric vehicle owners and local dealers will be on hand to answer questions.

From 4:30 – 5:30 pm, Taborri Bruhl and Dave Cohen will offer presentations on electric vehicles in Room 2 East, and exhibits will be available for viewing. The presentations will be followed by a tour of the new electric vehicle charging station in the Brattleboro Transportation Center, 77 Flat Street.

Over half of all Vermont communities have plug-in electric vehicles registered. Owners spend the equivalent of $1 per gallon of gas to charge their vehicles, while saving $1,200 or more on annual maintenance costs. EV purchasers are eligible for up to $7,500 in federal tax credits. Electric vehicles accelerate faster than most equivalent gas-powered cars, and have increased traction for winter driving due to heavy batteries. EVs are quiet, produce zero tailpipe emissions, and can be powered with renewable energy. If all Vermont cars were electric, we would save over $800 million in gasoline costs every year.

The Electric Vehicle Demonstration & Forum is free and open to the public, sponsored by Brattleboro Climate Protection, the Brattleboro Energy Committee, Marlboro College Graduate School, Brattleboro Food Co-op, and Soveren Solar. Light refreshments will be served.

  • The great Earthly tragedy > single-passenger polluting vehicle

    Electric and combustible engine vehicles were evolving around the same time in the late 1800s. It remains one of our great Earthly tragedies that oil refined into gasoline was well underway as well.

    Had the electric vehicle been developed just 20 or so years before and mass-produced a’la Henry Ford style, the godawful combustible and diesel engines might have been relegated to heavy labor machines instead of giving birth to billions of single-passenger polluting vehicles.

      The implications of this are staggering if you think of it from the perspective of what if…?

      Were there no petrogarchies, and their attending wars, would the face of history not look vastly different? For sure, we’d be living in another world if transit was configured less, ..*ehm autonomotorusly

      To say nothing of the effect on the big thing, the well-being of the earth itself.

        The question now is how fast can we overturn the current trend of combustible engines into clean electric engines? Should we nationalize the Pretroleum-Gasoline industrial complex?

          Not sure nationalizing is enough, this is a Galactic commodity, on the level of spice in the novel Dune. In that story, the fate of planets is hinged on its continual flow. And all sorts of other rituals and customs are entwined in its obsessive and militarized trade.

          We’re going to need a bigger worm to sway this battle.
