CALLING ALL SUPER HEROES!
Have you ever wanted to be a super hero – even for a day? Now is your chance!
During the Month of May the Children’s Room at Brooks Memorial Library will be holding a very special event:
“LIBRARY SUPER HEROES“. This fun event, sponsored by Friends of the Library will feature a mural of a friendly town ( much like Brattleboro!) inhabited by many colorful super heroes; flying, sitting and just standing around being..well…super. Emblazoned on their costumes will be the name of a specific craft supply that the children’s room uses for their wonderful, family friendly projects.
Come visit the children’s room ; choose your super hero; buy the craft supply; return it to the children’s room along with your super hero and have your name added to our ” Super Friends of the Children’s Room” poster! Then, everyone can see that you support your library in a very special way. You’ll be able to choose from a variety of craft supplies in all price ranges; washable markers, construction paper, glue sticks, paper plates…lots of supplies needed for a year of fun activities.
This is an inexpensive and fun way for a family to show how much our library means to them.
So, drop by the Children’s Room anytime in May and become one of our incredible “SUPER FRIENDS”!
Lifelong love and interest in the library
The Friends of Brooks Memorial Library a variety of community interested events. In many ways, supporting the Children’s Room is one of the best ways to inspire children to develop a lifelong love and interest all that our libraries have to offer.

Thanks, Vidda. I was delighted when I proposed this event to the library and they agreed to let me do it. My grandson loves the library and the arts and crafts projects the children’s room does. I think – as a parent and a grandmother – and a long time lover of the written word – that getting our kids to know and love their local library is one of the best things we can do to make them curious, bright and creative little humans.

I’m glad too, Kris, that you proposed this. Not having any children here in Vermont, I think I felt a tiny bit of envy, but joy, at frequently seeing Moms and Dads reading to their kids, the kids reading to them or playing with their kids on the carpet.
I think our community should know that you are a longtime contributor and participant with our Friends of the Library board. Several years ago you came to our meeting to propose that Brooks Library participate in “World Book Night,” the annual celebration of books and reading that takes place on April 23rd.
Sadly, World Book Night ended
Sadly, World Book Night ended in the United States last year. They just couldn’t get funding which is shameful with all the money that gets allotted to foolish projects within our government. Libraries and books have always played an enormous role in my life; they were a cornerstone that got me through some very difficult periods. I tried (and succeeded!) to instill a love of reading in my kids and I’m delighted to say that my grandson loves books as much as his Grandma does! I’m constantly in awe of how much our little library does not only in terms of the incredible collection of books but in the community programs they sponsor and the special events that occur there. I think their children’s room programming is excellent. I’m privileged to be able to help the library in any small way I can.
