World Book Night in Brattleboro

Register Now to be a Giver at World Book Night in Brattleboro. The Friends of Brooks Memorial Library are once again participating in World Book Night – an international event that gives volunteers thousands of free books to distribute in their communities.

This year’s book titles are diverse and wonderful; authors like Agatha Christie; Joseph Heller and Maria Semple; books ranging widely from the incredibly popular “The Dog Stars” to “The Tipping Point” to the beautifully written “Bridge to Terabithia”.

It’s easy to get involved. Simply go to www.worldbooknight.org and look over the book titles; choose the 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice of books that you would like to give away. Read the guidelines and apply to be a giver and submit. It’s that easy!

If you are chosen to be a giver you’ll be notified in mid February. Then in April you’ll be notified to come to Brooks Memorial Library, the WBN official pick up site for the Brattleboro area to get your books. The deadline to apply to be a giver is January 5, 2014. If you have questions feel free to contact Kris Alden – who is coordinating WBN with the library. She can be reached at: Kris.Brattreads@gmail.com

This extraordinary event is made possible by the World Book Night USA organization, hundreds of libraries and bookstores who host receptions and serve as book pickup sites; publishing companies who-at no cost- produce special editions of the books and thousands of “givers” – those volunteers who give out books at bus stops, shelters, soup kitchens, hospitals, schools, senior centers and many other places in their cities and towns.

This event sponsored by the Friends of Brooks Memorial Library will have the library serve as a distribution site for those people who were chosen to be givers this year. For more information contact Kris at kris.brattreads@gmail.com
