The Holiday Book Sale at the Brooks Memorial Library will continue until December 21st.
Raffle tickets are on sale for a custom designed and hand knitted doll created by local Newbury Award winning author, Karen Hesse. Hesse says that she designs these unique, one-of-a kind dolls as she knits – the doll’s character, shape and color evolves while she is knitting. The raffle tickets are $1.00 each or $5 for six tickets. Raffle proceeds will benefit the Children’s Room programs.
Also on sale is the very popular 2014 Book Lover’s Calendar. The calendars are great holiday gift items and are available at the Library Front Desk for $10 each.
Late Fees
Brooks Library charged me $5.00 yesterday for a book that was a week and a half overdue. I was flabbergasted. It was a book they had bought at my urging, so they owned it, but they charged me a ‘new’ interlibrary loan book fee rate of 50 cents per day. Go figure.
Borrower beware!
I love our library, but this was really a bit over the top. Please, everybody, buy lots of calendars and raffle tickets so that Brooks Library can meet their budget projections and resume their old policy of normal, sane, non-usurous fiduciary penalties for naughty, wayward, and slow readers like myself.
p.s. Full disclosure: they did call me the night before to let me know it was overdue.
Whose fee?
I’m wondering if it’s Brooks Library who is imposing the higher fee or the Interlibrary Loan Consortium? Either way, I guess it’s probably a good idea to return those books on time. 😉
I was really happy that the library alerts me when a book is soon to be due which has so far prevented me from overdue fees. I just race down with the books when they email (I think they email, pretty sure I don’t get phone calls on these but maybe you did because it was through ILL).
Oh, and about ILL — you can get books that the library doesn’t own through Interlibrary Loan. It’s a terrific research tool — you need the journals of an obscure colonial era so-and-so? Probably they can get a copy for you to borrow for a while. I’ve used it once or twice and been really pleased to have that option.
