Applications for scholarships due September 1

Brattleboro, VT — (August 25, 2014 ) — Brattleboro School of Dance classes for the 2014-15 season begin Monday, September 8. Individuals can register online at the Brattleboro School of Dance web site or visit the studio, located at 22 High Street in downtown Brattleboro, the weekend of September 5-7.

An Open House will take place from 5:00-8:00pm on Friday, September 5 offering dancers and their families a chance to tour the studio and meet members of the faculty. Free pizza and beverages will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Registration continues on Saturday, September 6 from 1:00-6:00pm and Sunday, September 7 from 12:00noon-2:00pm.

Students seeking financial assistance can download an application from the Scholarships page found at www.brattleboroschoolofdance.com. Scholarships are awarded to dance students by Company of Muses, a non-profit organization supporting performing arts education for youths and adults in the New England area. Scholarship applications and all pertinent financial documentation must be submitted by Monday, September 1.

Joining the ballet faculty this fall is Rachel Hebert. An alumna of Brattleboro School of Dance, Hebert has also studied at the Pittsburgh Ballet Theater School, Point Park University and The Ailey School. In addition, Carrie Towle is returning to the ballet faculty after an absence. Three other faculty members who are also returning after some time away are Alison Mott (modern dance), Patricia Wilson (Dunham style jazz) and Gershom Moore (hip hop).

Children class offerings for the fall semester include two levels of Children’s Tap as well as Children’s Jazz, and Children’s Hip Hop. There will also be Creative Dance and Toddler’s Dance programs for pre-schoolers, kindergartners and children under age seven.

New youth level classes include Youth Modern and Youth Ballet 5, which is part of a progressive curriculum offered after Children’s Ballet 1-4 have been completed. The school is also bringing back the Boys Breakin’ program on Monday afternoons.

In addition to classes in a wide array of styles for adults and teens of all ability levels, a Therapeutic Dance class will be offered to dancers returning from injury looking for a gentler way to explore ballet, modern and yoga techniques. There will also be fitness-related offerings, including Zumba and Jane LoMonaco’s EmbodyYoga and Pilates programs.
