Clearwater Festival with the B 4 Peace Team/ Namaya Art Rats was a wonderful success. Thousands came out for the Peace Arts Projects at this amazing festival of music, and activism by the beautiful Hudson River.
We had so many volunteers and helpers with the B 4 Peace Faires. The art projects included: Inevitability of Peace – a 9 foot tall pyramid of steel with a peace wreath encased in 300 pound block of ice that melted with a single “candle” over several days:
Amnesty Solstice – a 12 foot tall tower with the portraits of the heroes of human rights: Peace is One – a 7 foot peace wreath where people could write their committment to peace in 2013: Witness to Genocide the flags of Israel and Palestine woven together with the names of Palestinian villages destroyed by the IDF: And the bracelets with the names of the US soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan: The Reign of Peace Umbrellas – Umbrellas I painted with the motiff of Peace. Also, the 100 Flower banners in 100 languages.
One of the many delights was the children who were making peace umbrellas and art throughout the weekend. The kids became art rats for peace. A great joy was that Pete Seeger came by and saw the Inevitability of Peace and said, “I like the Peace pyramid.”
We will be bringing more of our peace arts and performance work down to NYC this summer and fall, and our flash mob “MAKE LOVE NOT WAR.” And this winter in Santiago Chile Namaya and the B4 Peace Project will create art and performance to commemorate the 40th Anniversay of the Coup d’etat and the heroes of Human Rights.
