BAH is pleased to be offering another volunteer training for the Serious Illness Program. The training will be starting in April with days/times to be determined to allow for maximum flexibility and accessibility.
The Serious Illness Program was created to offer support, solace, and assistance to people going through a life-altering serious illness that may or may not carry a terminal prognosis.
This is a wonderful opportunity to spend time with clients who are learning to adapt to the changes a serious illness brings.
SIP Volunteers can help in a variety of ways. Volunteers can help out by spending time one-on-one with SIP participants, or they can facilitate one of the very popular support groups.
Our Peer Support Groups are a place where folks can get together and openly share their experiences with others who truly understand. We offer a safe space to share personal experiences, feelings, coping strategies, and also allow for shared learning. Volunteers are vital to peer support group experience where they help create the space for the sharing to occur.
One-on-one Volunteer Support can take many forms. It may be as simple as a weekly phone call or a chat over some tea. Support may be helping out around the house, going out to a social gathering, or taking a walk by the river. It can be described as “whatever a neighbor could do” and is a great way to meet and support other community members.
Applications for the training are now being accepted. Click this link to apply: Serious Illness Program Volunteer Application or go to our website at: https://brattleborohospice.org/how-you-can-help/volunteer-training-application.
No experience is needed and space is limited. We ask for a $40 contribution to cover the cost of materials; scholarships are available.
