Construction Update
Brattleboro-Hinsdale
BF A004(152)
DATE: Thursday July 18, 2024
TRAFFIC IMPACTS:
Motorists should remain alert for construction traffic entering and exiting the work zone from Vermont Route 142 and Depot Street.
Due to current work on New Hampshire Route 119 associated with the project, the eastbound lane shift on NH 119 shortly after traveling over the twin bridges remains active for the time being. Motorists should be vigilant in the area for shifting traffic patterns as work is nearing completion in this location.
CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES:
Formwork for sidewalks and rail copings is still being installed on the bridge deck. Concrete is being placed today into a portion of those forms, and that work will continue. Placing concrete for another deck section is scheduled for July 24th.
Additional rebar to complete the bridge deck had to be ordered, and installation of that should be finished next week.
The subgrade for the approach slab at the Vermont abutment has been graded in preparation for building forms and installing rebar next week.
Utility crews finished installing all conduit under the bridge and have installed some pull boxes and a meter this week. They also poured a foundation to one of the pedestrian signal pedestals by the VT abutment. This utility work will continue as bridge progress allows.
Proper cleaning of the treatment tanks in the Barrows & Fisher yard is ongoing.
Paving of New Hampshire 119 started yesterday and is scheduled to be completed today. Guardrail installation along the new pavement is set for next week. When that is complete, traffic will begin to use the new road. The eastbound lane shift for NH 119 will remain until that time.
LOCATION:
The Hinsdale, NH to Brattleboro, VT bridge project will replace the existing twin truss bridges on New Hampshire Route 119 over the Connecticut River with a single, new structure approximately 1800′ long. On the Vermont side, the new structure will begin on Vermont Route 142 – about 1000′ south of the current intersection of VT 142 and NH 119. The new configuration will connect to NH 119 in New Hampshire east of the George’s Field Road/NH 119 intersection.
Unanticipated delays at a couple of the piers have adjusted the project completion date from Fall 2024 to Summer 2025.
PROJECTED COMPLETION: June 30, 2025
