CHESTER/SAXTONS , WALPOLE, CLAREMONT AND BRATTLEBORO TAKE LATEST CRVBL GAMES
With all teams in the Connecticut River Valley Baseball League in action over the last few days, the Chester/Saxtons Crush, the Walpole Wild Blue, the Claremont Cardinals and the Brattleboro River Rats emerged victorious.
The first place Chester/Saxtons Crrush lived up to its name with an 11 to 3 win over the Putney Fossils. Andrew Robbins of the Crush hit a solo home run and pitchers Scott Renfro and Nick Wirkkala combined to allow Putney seven hits. Defending league champion Claremont relied on the pitching of Andrew Sullivan and the hitting of second baseman John Grainger in its 9 to 2 victory over the Newport Polar Bears.
Walpole’s Tom Frederick gave up eight hits while Erik Baker had a single and a double to drive in a pair of runs as the Wild Blue defeated the Sunapee Old Lakers 5 to 2. The Brattleboro River Rats won their second straight game, beating the Keene Black Dawgs 9 to 2. Brattleboro’s Todd Bell pitched the complete game victory and catcher Sunny Lucas and second baseman Abe Klein each scored two runs.
This Sunday, six of the eight town teams are in action as Keene travels to Claremont for an 11:00 game. At the same time, Newport will be hosting Walpole, and Putney hosts Sunapee at Dummerston Field at 1:00 p.m. Admission to all CRVBL games is free, and to find out more about the area’s adult amateur league, visit the league website at http://www.crvbl.org/ .
