The National Weather Service is warning that hot temperatures in the mid to upper 90’s combined with high humidity levels are expected to create dangerous heat conditions Friday, Saturday & Sunday with the most oppressive conditions expected Saturday.Early morning low temperatures in the 70s will not provide much cooling.
The Brattleboro Fire Department would like to remind citizens of these few simple rules to remain safe and healthy;
- Stay in an air-conditioned space as necessary. If you don’t have air conditioning, go to a public building that does. Fans also help to move the air which helps to cool.
- Avoid strenuous activities, especially during peak heat times of the day.
- Wear light clothing
- Check on family and friends, especially the elderly
- Drink plenty of water – stay hydrated
- Don’t leave people of pets in a vehicle
- Be aware of heat cramps – exhaustion- stroke
Municipally owned buildings with air conditioning that will be readily available include the lobby of Central Fire Station, Station 2, the police station lobby, and Brooks Memorial Library.
The Brattleboro Fire Department will be monitoring the weather conditions as well as the needs of the community, and a cooling facility will be opened if it becomes necessary.
