Sue Fillion will succeed Rod Francis as Planning Director for the Town of Brattleboro. The transition will take place on Friday, July 6, as Francis completes his service to the Town of Brattleboro after more than 10 years as Planning Director. Francis will hold a comparable position in the Town of Norwich, Vermont, beginning on Monday, July 9.
In appointing Fillion, Town Manager Peter Elwell said, “We are fortunate to have someone so capable right here on our team and ready to provide a smooth transition.” Fillion has been the
Town Planner for the past 9 years, serving together with Francis on the Town staff and prior to that on the staff of the Windham Regional Commission. “Sue was the lead staff person both for our award winning Town Plan in 2013 and for the outstanding update of our land use regulations in 2015,” said Elwell. “She is smart, effective, and an excellent representative of the Town in our relationships with other organizations and officials.”
Fillion earned a Geography degree with honors at Keene State College. She was Assistant Planner for the Town of Merrimack, New Hampshire, for three years before working six years as a Planner at the Windham Regional Commission and since 2009 as the Town Planner in Brattleboro.
Before making this appointment, Elwell consulted with the Selectboard and interviewed Fillion. Joining him on that interview panel were Selectboard Chair Kate O’Connor, Planning Commission Chair Liz McLoughlin, and Development Review Board Chair James Valente. Elwell said he and the other panel members were unanimous in their enthusiastic support for Fillion to be promoted to her new role.
