This has been quite the cold snap, eh? A stretch of single and negative digits for over a week. How are you holding up?
We get a short break Wednesday and Thursdays with balmy 20 degree+ temperatures before dropping again for the weekend. Saturday’s HIGH is expected to be – 1. The LOW is expected to be -16.
Parts of Florida have a winter storm watch in effect.
If you look at global temperatures, we (US and Canada) are just about the only cold spot on the planet. Just about everywhere else is above average.
In the good news category, next Monday we shoot up to a high of 32. And the days are getting longer. It’s almost summer again!
Be careful! NOAA says:
* WHAT…Snow expected. Dangerously cold wind chills possible.
Plan on slippery road conditions, including during the morning
commute on Thursday. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches
are expected on Thursday into Thursday Night. Wind chills could
range from 20 below zero to 40 below zero Thursday Night
through Saturday, with the lowest readings on Friday Night into
Saturday morning.
* WHERE…Bennington, Western Windham and Eastern Windham
Counties.
* WHEN…For the Winter Weather Advisory, from 7 AM Thursday to
7 AM EST Friday. For the Wind Chill Watch, from late Thursday
night through Saturday afternoon.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Be prepared for reduced visibilities at
times. Dangerously cold wind chills as low as 40 below zero
will cause frostbite in as little as 10 minutes to exposed
skin.
A high of -1?
I can’t believe the high on Saturday is predicted to be -1’F. Not in my memory of 6 decades so low a high.
Yow
This part got me:
” Wind chills could range from 20 below zero to 40 below zero Thursday Night through Saturday,”
Much warmer... : )
Forecast has been revised. High could be 0 degrees.
Ice jam
If you get a chance, take a look at the ice in the West River near the Marina. When everything melted the other day, ice broke loose, then it froze up again causing an ice jam. Looks like big ice rocks were deposited.
The meadow area remains smooth.
These 50 degree temperature swings can do some amazing things.
Ice jam
I saw the ice the other day and was so intrigued, I stopped and took a few pictures today.
Jam!
Thanks for the picture in Photo Fun!
I wonder how it will look after the warming this weekend? Water and ice are quite powerful.
Try working in it.
I was out in the coldest of the cold. My job requires me to work in it at 5:00 am which on most days is the coldest part of the day. While many of you are snuggled in. I’m out there earning a living in the brutality of the planet Hoth.
