Falls Area Community Television (FACT TV) invites film lovers and budding filmmakers to attend the premier screening of the No Film Film Festival submissions on June 29, 2013. Doors open at 5:00 p.m. and the show starts at 6 p.m. at the Bellows Falls Opera House, with music provided by the Intercept.
“The No Film Film Festival is truly unique and can only be experienced to be adequately understood,” FACT TV Director Jacob Stradling said. On June 29th the films will premiere on the largest screen in southern Vermont at the world renowned Bellows Falls Opera House, “the only public viewing of these genre bending 1980s movie mashups,” Stradling said.
The No Film Film Festival is an international contest in its second year that challenged start-up filmmakers to produce a short digital film based on a popular 1980’s movie in just one weeks’ time. “This year eighteen teams from across the country answered the call with only fifteen teams surviving the exhaustive task,” Stradling said. The event kicked off May 31, 2013, and submissions had to be in by June 7.
Completed entries will be shown and voted on by the audience and a panel of judges. The “best of the best” awards will be announced following the June 29 voting, with a special screening of the winners at Popolo, on July 13 at 5 p.m. The winner will receive a Black Magic Cinema Camera, according to Stradling.
In its second year, “Contestants from around the world competed to re-imagine a classic American film. The festival is all about having fun and allowing filmmakers to use their creativity and put their own stamp on a classic American film.”
Eighteen filmmakers covered 80s movie themes that include romance such as Field of Dreams and Driving Miss Daisy, kids films such as The Karate Kid and Teenage Mutant Movie, sci-fi flicks with two remakes of, one a zombie version, Back to the Future, and The Fly, adventure films like Raiders of the Lost Ark and Witness, and a host of others covering every genre of film from noir to a horror remake of Poltergeist.
Stradling said then, “Each film will be judged by an esteemed professional, as well as the attending audience, and the winning film’s team will receive the new Black Magic Cinema Camera.”
Doors open at 5 p.m. June 29, with screening starting at 6 p.m. Music will be provided by the Interceptors. The award ceremony and screening of the winners will take place at 5 p.m., June 13, 2013, with the announcement for the Best Picture and awarding of the Grand Prize of the Black Magic Cinema Camera.
