SUNAPEE AND NEWPORT WINNERS IN CRVBL WEEKEND ACTION

The Sunapee Old Lakers improved their season record to five wins and two losses by defeating the Brattleboro River Rats, while the Newport Polar Bears climbed above the .500 mark with a victory over the Keene Black Dawgs in Connecticut River Valley Baseball League action over the weekend.
At Bates Memorial Field in Newport, the host Polar Bears pounded out hits in five run second inning and a six run fifth and cruised to a 15-2 win over Keene Sunday afternoon.
Also on Sunday, the Sunapee squad broke things open with a four run fourth to beat Brattleboro, 7-0. Old Lakers pitcher Tom Frederick threw eight shoutout innings, Center Fielder Bill Austin had three hits and First baseman Chris McGinnis drive in three runs.
This week, the CRVBL schedule begins on Thursday night at 6:00 when the Walpole Wild Blue host the Putney Fossils. On Friday night, Walpole hosts Keene at 6:00 p.m., and on Sunday June 9 Sunapee hosts the Claremont Cardinals at 11:00 a.m., and at the same time, Putney hosts Brattleboro at Dummerston Field.
