Trump is this sort of rolling shock—every day there’s some shocking news
- StepOne: Know what’s coming.
(We can expect them to impose some sort of state of exception or emergency where the usual rules of democracy no longer apply)
- StepTwo: Get out of your home and defy the bans.
(There is only one way to respond: Disobey en masse)
- StepThree: Know your history.
(Nationalcrises have been used to suspend constitutional protections and attack basic rights)
- StepFour: Always follow the money.
(Whoseinterests are being served by the chaos? What is being slipped through while
we’re distracted? Who’s getting richer, and who’s getting even poorer?)
- StepFive: Advance a bold counterplan.
(Opponentsof the shock doctrine need to move quickly to put forward a credible alternate plan. It needs to get at the root of why these sorts of crises are hitting us with ever greater frequency. And that means we have to talk about militarism, climate change and deregulated markets)
There has to be a different vision, and it needs to be bold. Saying no to the shock doctrine is vitally important. But when the $hit hits the fan, no is not enough.

spinoza's 5 questions to those who consider this list
Question 1. : If you don’t already see the tendencies and historical precedents what makes you think the contours of future events will be making the painfully obvious any clearer?
Question 2. : If you are not presently mobilized, empowered, at or least outraged to the point of desperation, why would unfolding events encourage you to leave your comfort zones?
Question 3. : See question 1, and ask yourself again, if no, why not?
Question 4. : The only money any of us can follow is our own, and that is a steeplechase at best. Who believes any citizen could untangle much less plumb the depths of a militarized labyrinth?
Question 5. : See question 2.
Misreading?
Am I reading you wrong? Are you saying that this is already baked into the cake, so you are wasting your time trying to resist?
Let's See who's on Tee Vee
What’s baked into the cake is apathy, concession to authority, and capitulation.
Go to google and look up South Korean protests over corruption..tens of millions in the streets.
Why weren’t that many of us mobilized when Merrick Garland was denied a hearing, or Michael Brown was shot, or the White House stripped the public of a science component, or a climate change awareness office?
We are on track for 1000 shootings at the hands of police, THIS YEAR…seems less a story than how much Clooney made on his tequila sale.
Has everyone seen the NRA video calling for a civil war to kill media elites, professors, people of conscience?
And who are we waiting for to spearhead counter policy, Schumer? Maybe he’ll get back to us after he comes down from last night’s party at the Hamptons with Ivanka and Jared and David Koch.
I’m saying, to be completely unambiguous…there is more than enough to be outraged over already…Yes it will get worse, but so will tactics of fear, and desire to hide from reality.
Aha!
I understand now what you are saying and I agree completely.
It’s a very pessimistic message, sad, too. But completely accurate.
