There is a lot of conversation going around about the Governor’s veto. It is indeed on the veto session for June 21. But there is no way the General Assembly will override it. While we do have the votes in the Senate to do so (2/3 is needed, that means 20 in the Senate) but the House does not have the votes. It only passed with about 80+votes and they would need 100 to override. So the bill is dead until next January when we will see if there is any compromise he can live with.
His two concerns seem to be driver safety: we do not have a road side test but we know that people were arrested for drunk driving before there were breathalyzers and we know that the best road side test in Drug Recognition Experts (which we have and the bill would have allowed more to be trained).
His other concern is youth access. But right now youth have easier access to marijuana than to alcohol because alcohol is regulated. So…regulate marijuana. And put some quality controls on it so that those kids who do try it will not get horrible stuff mixed in with it. And he seems to be concerned about edibles. None of the bills that have ever been considered have allowed edibles.
I don’t see how we can compromise any more to make him happy. We will see.

The Vermont State Senate votes for or against bills that have been vetoed by Vermont Governor Phil Scott June 21, 2017, and continuing if they don’t finish.
I forgot to ask what day the State Representatives vote for or against
bills that have been vetoed. Perhaps Jeanette White could fill us in.
I don’t know if I can get my van fixed in time to participate. I bought this van on April 3rd because it is large enough to put a porta potty in back, and I am 65 with bladder issues.
The van was advertised on the internet by a used car sales place in Brattleboro area. They know where I live, so I won’t be specific because now that I feel they are total crooks, I am afraid of them.
When I called, the used car dealer stated that he was selling the van for a friend of his, rather than a direct sale from his used car dealership, even though he was the one who advertised it on the internet.
I called his friend and he brought it over, drove it around, and told me it was in good shape and should pass inspection again in August. So, I bought it and paid for it.
It turns out that it was dripping fluids, and most of those have now been repaired. Also, it apparently has a crack in the frame. A local mechanic ordered a frame but apparently received the wrong part, and I’m waiting again. There are also rust issues that have to be repaired by the end of August.
I did drive the same Ford Focus for over 14 years, so it is my fault for forgetting how to be careful in buying a different vehicle.
If you live in the Brattleboro area, or are searching for a used vehicle in that area, please beware of a used car dealer that “bait and switches” and says, oh, he’s just selling it for a friend, even thought the advertisement was on the used car dealership’s website, you have to call his friend.
If I can actually get everything fixed, it will be a perfect campaign vehicle for my 2018 political campaign. It has a bed in back, and a drivers’ seat and two passenger seats, so I can take two people with me,
and then they would have to have tents for themselves at night.
So, hopefully I can manage this before the inspection sticker runs out at the end of August.
This is a 2003 Dodge Ram Van.
And don’t tail gate me, I am driving carefully and not exceeding the speed limit doing my shopping locally because the repairs aren’t done yet.
What good is it going to do you to tail gate me? This vehicle weighs maybe thousands of pounds, so don’t hit your front fender on my rear one because you’ll be the one with the dent!
Wow.
Wow.
Regulation Equals Money
After reading the governor’s objections, I tend to think that the only thing to be gained from legalizing cannabis would be increased tax revenue to the state. If the state doesn’t want that money, so be it. They stand to lose more by not legalizing than the citizens would gain by legalizing.
Under criminal justice supervision
I’m surprised to hear you say “the only thing to be gained from legalizing cannabis would be increased tax revenue to the state.”
Maybe you don’t know anyone who has been and/or is now in prison, or trapped under the criminal justice supervision for possession or personal use. Moreover, marijuana consumption should be an adult choice like the alcohol model. There are other good reasons for legalizing marijuana.
Good point
Yeah, you’re right. There is the incarceration issue. I don’t personally know anyone who was locked up for it. In fact, I was under the impression that possession is a misdemeanor or low level civil offense. Selling is probably a felony though, so there’s that. Of course, unlicensed dealers might still be subject to incarceration even with this law — do you know?
Your point is well taken, at any rate. I was just being grumpy.

If it is raining, bring umbrellas and
plastic table cloths to sit on.
Paint your signs with acrylic paint
which should be fine in the rain.

MARIJUANA DEMONSTRATION, MONTPELIER, VERMONT
JUNE 21, 2017 on the State House Lawn
TAKE YOUR OLD, PLAIN T-SHIRTS AND PAINT
MARIJUANA DESIGNS ON IT,
AND DO THIS FOR YOUR FRIENDS, TOO!!!
You can make stencils by drawing
pictures of marijuana on poster board
and carefully cutting them out,
and then lay the stencil on a plain t-shirt
and use a brush to carefully paint in the
marijuana with green acrylic paint.
Common “Exterior House Paint” is best
for painting t-shirts. Ask your friends
to bring you their old plain colored t-shirts
because with common exterior house paint,
you can paint the marijuana plant over any
color, black, white, any color plain t-shirt.
If you have an air brush and compressor,
use the common exterior house paint, and go
to a thrift store and buy every plain t-shirt you
can afford for 50 cents and hand them out
“for donations” to your as yet un-incorporated
non-profit, or established non-profit organization.
This is the only way I know of to make hundreds
of t-shirts for less than a dollar a t-shirt total cost.
Remember, we are hoping 80,000 Vermont pot heads
will show up!
You can buy a gallon or a half gallon
of green EXTERIOR HOUSE PAINT (acrylic)
at the hardware store
and paint hundreds of t-shirts with stencils,
using a brush to paint a plain t-shirt.
Acrylic paint on cotton t-shirts
dries reasonably fast, especially if hung
out on a clothes line in the sun.
MAKE SURE THE PAINT IS “ACRYLIC” OR
BUY IT IN TUBES THAT SAY “ACRYLIC”.
THIS MEANS IT DRIES LIKE PLASTIC AND
STAYS ON IN THE RAIN OR IN THE
WASHING MACHINE.
When you wash the t-shirt in a washing
machine and put it in a dryer, the
common exterior house paint stays on just great!
This is a fabulous way of making a lot
of t-shirts!
THEN MAKE A SECOND STENCIL
OF A MARIJUANA BUD OR MARIJUANA FLOWER.
You can make a
separate stencil for the “bud” or flower of
the marijuana plant, and use a different
color. FIRST paint t-shirts
with the green, then go back and USE THE
SECOND STENCIL FOR THE MARIJUANA FLOWER OR
MARIJUANA BUD AND PUT THAT STENCIL OVER
THE MARIJUANA PLANT and paint
the “bud” or flower a different color on them.
Please share this message on all of your
social media! Remember, I’ve been kicked
out of facebook, so I am depending on you
to spread the word and get people to show up!
Remember, if you are bringing ten or more people,
fill out a form for Nancy McAvoy
(802)828-1506 Vermont State Dept. of
Buildings and General Services, and if the
form requires a name for your group, put
something like, “80,000 Pot Heads”.

Pothead Tripe
You’ll see 80,000 “potheads” in Montpelier in your dreams.
You have never understood that this is not a pothead issue. There are plenty of people who support legalization who are not marijuana consumers. (I dislike the tripe word “pot,” and “pothead” even less.)
It’s a tragedy in VT that the marijuana issue has been subsumed by an individual who is the least qualified to reachout and inspire the broad cross-section of people needed to rationally discuss and act on an issue that’s important to many adults
Our Governor Sucks
What a douche, definitely voting for someone else next election.
