Idyllic Spot

This idyllic waterway is located in a most unexpected place.

It is in the US, in fact, in a state that borders Vermont.

Does anybody want to venture a guess as to exactly where?

Hint: The name of the waterway will reveal the location.

  • 15 miles?

Looks like it could be a place for my old mule named Sal.

  • What is...

    Bronx River Pathway

    • Bingo!

      Give that man a cigar!
How did you get it so fast?

It’s within the bounds of the New York Botanical Garden in “Da Bronx”.
I used to play there as a kid. It was just as beautiful, but the water was putrid.
We used to say that anybody swimming in it would get Polio.
They’ve cleaned up the river by now.

  • Canal use?

To me, it looked like an old canal path… a place for the barge, and a path for the horse or mule to pull things along.

Did they use it as a canal?

    • Canal

It looks like it to me, many years ago. There are still mooring bollards on it that suggest it was.

The river starts in Valhalla at what is now Kensico Reservoir in upper Westchester County. It enters the East River at Hunts point in the Bronx.
All told, it’s about 25 miles long.
