Governor Shumlin Awards $450k for Bradley House Renovations
Brattleboro, VT—Governor Peter Shumlin awarded $450,000 yesterday to the Town of Brattleboro for renovations and an expansion of Bradley House, a Level III Residential Care Home located on Harris Avenue. The planned renovations will enhance the property’s capacity, accessibility and safety.
The award, recommended by the Vermont Community Development Program (VCDP); and confirmed by Vermont Secretary of the Agency of Commerce and Community Development, Patricia Moulton; was presented by the Governor at a Bradley House ceremony. Approximately 50 people were on-hand to witness the presentation of awards to Brattleboro and six other recipients.
Cindy Jerome, executive director of Bradley House, said the money will be used to address safety, accessibility and quality-of-life issues. “It’s difficult for some residents to climb in and out of our current tub showers, and many residents share bathrooms. Soon, every room will have its own bathroom, including an accessible shower. The work will also add a new commercial kitchen and resident dining room, seven new resident rooms and increased energy efficiency.”
Cathedral Square, a Vermont non-profit known for developing and operating affordable housing for seniors and people with disabilities, is providing development services, including securing necessary funding. Cathedral Square’s Director of Development, Cindy Reid, said the project benefits the community in many ways. “The renovations will bring safety and comfort to current residents, and the expansion will serve a critical need for residential care in the region for an aging population. The expansion will also add 3.5 full-time jobs.”
