Just So Pediatrics (JSP), a member of the BMH Medical Group, is now offering extended hours in order to accommodate patients who request evening and occasionally, weekend appointments. In addition to its regular hours of 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM on weekdays, JSP has extended their office hours from 8 AM until 8 PM on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with additional appointments available on some Saturdays.
“Extended hours benefit working parents who cannot come during 8:30am to 5pm hours,” says Cynthia Howes, RN, a Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner with JSP. “They also increase health care access to school aged children and decrease school absences.” Research from the University of Michigan shows children who have access to extended pediatric primary care appointments have half as many Emergency Department visits as those who do not.
“We’re focused on preventative health care and promoting healthy habits, so families don’t have to experience stressful and costly Emergency Department visits,” says Howes. “As pediatric experts, we are committed to guiding and educating parents and children. Besides a child’s physical growth, we focus on nutrition, and physical activity as well as developmentally appropriate parenting using community resources to assist families. We also address the emotional well-being of children, providing support when needed.”
The Just So Pediatrics team provides phone advice and can make same day sick visit appointments. Nursing Triage services continue to be available after office hours, and a Pediatrician is on call at all times when the office is closed for questions that cannot wait until the next day.
Other services offered by Just So Pediatrics include childhood obesity prevention and nutrition education, free car seat inspections, and immunization education.
“Another important focus in our practice is the transition to adult care,” says Howes “During early adolescence we begin educating children to advocate for themselves and to begin focusing on their transition to adulthood. We encourage children to ask questions and to be part of the decision making process.”
Just So Pediatrics was named after Rudyard Kipling book Just So Stories. Kipling lived in Brattleboro at one point in his life and wrote The Jungle Book, Captains Corageous, IF….,and Gunga Din.
