Brattleboro Bridge Replacement Project Update: Week of March 27

I-91

Northbound I-91 traffic has been relocated onto the southbound bridge. Traffic will remain reduced to one lane in each direction on I-91 until completion of the new bridge. The new bridge will be 104’ wide and is designed to carry all four lanes of traffic –two northbound and two southbound.

Route 30

The speed limit on Route 30 near the work zone has been reduced to 40 mph. Project-related truck activity on Route 30 will continue. Route 30 may be reduced to a single lane intermittently, with flaggers regulating traffic within the work zone.

Upper Dummerston Road

Upper Dummerston Road will be closed for one day between March 30th and April 1st, between 6:00 AM and 9:00 PM so that the project team can work on concrete deck placement. This work is weather dependent. We will give the public as much advance notice as possible regarding the closure date. The temporary roadway clearance reduction under the bridge is no longer planned.

West River Trail

The West River Trail is open. There are intersections between construction access and the trail path, and users should exercise extreme caution at these intersections. As an additional safety precaution, users of the West River Trail are reminded to keep pets on a leash in this area.

West River

There will be a 2-3 week period in April when construction activities will restrict recreational traffic on the river. We will provide as much advance notice as possible regarding the restriction period.

Text Alert System

A text alert system for the Brattleboro Bridge Replacement Project makes it possible to receive text notifications of:

• Interstate ramp closings,

• Closings of I-91,

• Closings of VT Route 30 (but not single lane closings of RT 30), and

• Any other situations regarding time sensitive project-related traffic issues.

People can sign up for this service by texting 313131 with the keyword “I91Brat”, or by using the signup widget on the project website www.i91brattleborobridge.com.

Trail Talks

We will continue to hold trail talks for the community. The next Trail Talk will be held soon.

  • Close to one side

They seem VERY close to attaching the southern end of the bridge to the road – there’s almost no gap now.

Anyone know if they plan to paint the underside, or will it be the unfinished concrete?

    • Painting the bridge

According to what I’ve heard on the Trail Talks, not only do they plan to paint the underside, but the stone-look piers will be in varied colors to look more like real stone. And actually it won’t be paint, but some sort of long-lasting concrete tinting process.

      • Thx

Thanks for the info. I was hoping for news like that. This bridge is looking really nice, and a good finish will make it shine.

Remains a fascinating project to watch.
