Best wishes to all for safe and merry holidays!
I-91
Please be prepared for heavy traffic resulting in minor slowing of traffic over Christmas and New Year’s weeks, and especially on December 24th, 28th and 31st.
Northbound I-91 traffic has been relocated onto the southbound bridge. Traffic will remain reduced to one lane in each direction on I-91 until completion of the new bridge. The new bridge will be 104’ wide and is designed to carry all four lanes of traffic –two northbound and two southbound.
Route 30
The speed limit on Route 30 near the work zone has been reduced to 40 mph. Project-related truck activity on Route 30 will continue. Route 30 may be reduced to a single lane intermittently, with flaggers regulating traffic within the work zone.
Upper Dummerston Road
The project will not have any direct effects on Upper Dummerston Road.
West River Trail
The West River Trail is open. There are intersections between construction access and the trail path, and users should exercise extreme caution at these intersections. As an additional safety precaution, users of the West River Trail are reminded to keep pets on a leash in this area.
West River
The northbound bridge over the West River has been removed. No project-related impacts to recreational boaters are anticipated.
Text Alert System
A text alert system for the Brattleboro Bridge Replacement Project makes it possible to receive text notifications of:
• Interstate ramp closings,
• Closings of I-91,
• Closings of VT Route 30 (but not single lane closings of RT 30), and
• Any other situations regarding time sensitive project-related traffic issues.
People can sign up for this service by texting 313131 with the keyword “I91Brat”, or by using the signup widget on the project website www.i91brattleborobridge.com.
Project Progress
· Casting of the segments will continue through the winter.
· Construction of the Pier Table at Pier 2 will be completed this winter.
· Construction of the North Abutment is underway and will continue through the winter season.
· Abutment work at the new bridge over Upper Dummerston Road has begun and will continue following the winter season.
· The new roadway alignment will continue through the 2016 non-winter season.
Trail Talks
We will continue to hold monthly trail talks for the community. The next Trail Talk will be held on January 9.
Safety
Please focus on safety when driving through the construction work zone and remember that it is now against the law for drivers to use a hand-held cell phone.

Trail Talk
I arrived about 8:05 expecting a Trail Talk last Saturday (12/12); there was one empty car and another car pulled up a few minutes later, hung around for a few minutes, then left. It was surprising on such a nice unusually warm day not to have the usual half dozen to a dozen people. I waited until about 8:30 then took myself on my own self-guided tour. Did I mis a cancellation memo? Looking forward to January 9, anyway!
counting
I’ve been impressed with the project on the more-complete side of things, and have been estimating how much is done by counting as I drive by. A few months ago I could count to two while driving by solid bridge – now it is more like a count of 5 or so.
That whole stretch of 91 makes me nervous though. I don’t like the narrow, walled off lane at all.
