Hi! Julie,

is the VTEL back up battery located outside or inside the residential house?

Is it up a pole?

Is it on the side of the house?

As a homeowner, I can’t call an electrician and get a price for a  back up generator, and how it connects to your VTEL battery, if you can’t supply answers to questions.

I don’t see how your company can “force” people to switch from copper to fiber optics, and leave them without any telephone in a power outage when the VTEL 8 hour back up battery runs out.

You can do a little research and talk to your technical people and give me the information I need to get a back up power generator that lasts more than 8 hours, and how it is supposed to connect to your new fiber optics back up battery.

No wonder people on the internet in Massachusetts are having websites about fighting rather
than switching.

The copper-based network is self-powered and will usually remain operational in the event of a power outage, while fiber service relies upon an optical network terminal (ONT), which must be connected to a power source or outlet at your home or business. If your power goes out, a backup battery connected to the ONT will provide you with backup power for a period of time. In the event of an electrical outage, most batteries will operate telephones up to 8 hours.

Hi Chris,

It is my understanding that if you plug the backup battery into a Generator it would keep the service active

VTEL IS NOT PROVIDING ENOUGH INFORMATION WHILE “FORCING” CUSTOMERS TO SWITCH FROM COPPER LINES TO FIBER OPTICS:

How do you “plug” a back up battery into a generator?

Q: What is the most significant difference between copper-based telephone service and fiber-based telephone service?

  • Don't know about your system

Don’t know about your system but when VTEL upgraded my system they placed the back-up battery (beige box abt. 7″x8″ with one green LED) inside near the main electric panel. The battery is rechargable and it’s charger is pluged into a 110 volt outlet. The plug on my setup is designed to allow another plug to be pluged into it (piggy-backed) it also has a bright yellow label that sayes ” DO NOT REMOVE PLUG “.
It is this plug that would need to be powered in order to keep your battery charged during a power outage. Most portable phones also need power to work.
    Hope this helps. Good luck
