Action Taken/Details: At 5:14pm Brattleboro Central Dispatch took a 911 call for a fire in the basement. A 1st alarm assignment of Engine 3, Engine 4 & Ladder1 responded along with automatic aid from Guilford & Dummerston with tankers because the location was outside of the hydrant district.
Upon arrival of Engine 4 at 5:23pm there was smoke showing from the front and south side of the structure. A hose line was stretched inside through a side door as the smoke & heat condition worsened and a 2nd alarm was ordered at 5:26pm bringing all of Brattleboro apparatus to the scene as well as tankers from Vernon & Chesterfield.
Fire on the 1st floor was knocked down and as more personnel arrived a 2nd line was stretched inside and crews completed extinguishment of fire in the basement and on the 1st floor. The fire was declared under control at 6:03pm. There was minor damage in the basement and extensive damage on the 1st & 2nd floors due to fire, heat & smoke.
Brattleboro Fire Department was assisted at the scene by Guilford, Dummerston & Keene Fire Departments, Brattleboro Police, Rescue Inc & Green Mountain Power. There were no injuries.
