The Village Dance Series provides an opportunity for families and friends to come together to enjoy one of New England’s traditional pastimes. Experience is not necessary, as all the dances are taught.
Our next evening of community contra and square dances will take place at the Evening Star Grange in Dummerston Center on Saturday, October 17, from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. Mary Cay Brass will be calling the dance. There will be a traditional folk tale midway through the evening. The program will include traditional New England contra dances, square dances, circle mixers, and couple dances.
Mary Cay Brass has been calling dances and performing traditional dance music for many years. She also conducts two community vocal ensembles, The River Singers and Greenfield Harmony. Andy Davis will play accordion accompanied by Larry Seigel on piano. Andy and Larry are preparing to perform next year in Montmagny, Quebec at the “Carrefour mondiale de l’accordion.” Larry Seigel is a seasoned New England style dance musician and composer. Andy Davis teaches music in three area schools.
The dances are always preceded by a community potluck supper at 5:30 p.m. Bring a dish to share. Refreshments will be available. Admission is $4 for children, $7 for Adults and $20 for a family.
