Solar power can now fit most budgets. The price of solar panels has dropped by 50% in the last two to three years, and new incentives and financing programs make solar truly affordable and a great investment for homeowners, renters, businesses, and landlords. One approach, participating in a community solar array located elsewhere, allows great flexibility in how much power to contract for, and it’s not constrained by your own site. By going solar (on-site or off-site), you can save money on your electric bills while supporting clean, renewable power and local jobs.
Brattleboro Climate Protection and the Brattleboro Energy Committee are working with five local solar companies to sponsor Brattleboro Solar Summer. Our goal is for at least 100 Brattleboro residents and/or businesses to contract for solar electric systems on their home or business, or buy shares in a community solar project during the campaign period – May 1-September 30, 2015. The participating solar companies are offering a discount ranging from $50-$200/kilowatt, depending on the number of people who sign up.
The new Windham County Solar Loan Program from the Vermont State Employees Credit Union (VSECU) offers low-interest loans to any Windham County resident to install panels or invest in community solar. Residents can also take advantage of a 30% federal tax credit that expires at the end of 2016.
