Eli Conley and his band will appear in concert at The Root Social Justice Center at 28 Williams St., First Floor, Brattleboro, VT on Wednesday, April 22nd at 7pm. The show is all ages. There is a $5-10 suggested donation at the door.
Eli Conley has a voice that shifts deftly from country choirboy to soulful croon at the turn of a phrase. Steeped in roots music and the singer-songwriter tradition, he crafts modern day folk songs for misfits, unafraid to push the themes and instrumentation of Americana music forward.
This April Eli returns from the Bay Area to his native Virginia to reunite with musicians Joel Price and Conrad Sisk and kickoff his annual East Coast Tour. Joel contributes mandolin and fiddle and arranges the group’s tight three-part harmonies. He was a founding member of Philadelphia folk-pop trio Ellipsis. Conrad joins on electric cello, an instrument with a fifth string that allows it to do double-duty as a bass. He’s contributed string lines to Blue Line Highway, Nick Coward and the Last Battle, and Rattlemouth.
Eli Conley released his debut album At The Seams in September, 2013 and toured nationally in support of the album. It was recorded at Empty Sea Studios in Seattle with producer Michael Connolly (Indigo Girls, Coyote Grace). “Akin [to] the classic era of the singer-songwriter genre – think Jackson Browne, early Elton John, Stephen Stills, and the more recent work of Melissa Etheridge – Conley’s cinematic lyrics and strong sense of melody serve artist and the listener well. Eli has shared the stage with Grammy-winner Kimya Dawson, and opened for The Reverend Peyton and Chris Shiflett at San Francisco’s Café Du Nord. He performs and teaches regularly at La Peña Cultural Center in Berkeley, CA. His song “Draw the Line” will be featured in an upcoming episode of the web series Brothers. He also contributed the song “Pinocchio” to Hold On Another Day, Project Believe In Me’s nationally distributed CD to combat youth bullying.
