According to this article, linked below, a relatively simple engineering advance has boosted solar cell efficiency up to about 40%. If true, this really would make a big difference in the cost of solar. A BIG difference. Cross your fingers.

An increase of 7% is non-trivial.
I wonder, if they can increase it by going from one to four cells, perhaps they could then go to 16 or 32 cells someday for a further boost?
And compared to current rooftop solar panels, its bigger than 7%
According to the article, this would be a much higher increase than 7% compared to what is commonly put on house rooftops.
“Green is hopeful the technology can also eventually be used for solar panels mounted on people’s roofs, which he said currently had a 15 to 18 percent efficiency rate.”
