Company of Muses has announced tickets for the 2014 Brattleboro School of Dance production of The Nutcracker will go on sale Monday, November 17.
Show times for this year’s run of the holiday classic are 7:00pm on Friday and Saturday, December 19-20, and then matinees at 1:00pm and 5:00pm on Sunday, December 21. All performances will take place at the New England Youth Theatre, located at 100 Flat Street in Brattleboro.
Tickets can be purchased online through BrattleboroSchoolofDance.com or by visiting the studio, located at 22 High Street in downtown Brattleboro, on Saturdays between 11:00am to 3:00pm. The studio will not be open on Saturday, November 29, due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
Brattleboro School of Dance director Jennifer Moyse says tickets will also be sold in the studio from 5:00 to 7:00pm during the Friday, December 5 Gallery Walk, as well at the Brattleboro Food Co-op during a few dates still to be determined.
“We recognize not everyone wants to purchase tickets online. Last year, we nearly sold out the entire run in advance, so we are trying to be as accommodating as possible and give everyone a fair opportunity,” says Moyse.
Tickets are $15. All proceeds benefit the Company of Muses scholarship fund, which makes financial aid available to dance students of all ages and abilities in a variety of settings. More information is available at companyofmuses.org.
This will be the second straight year Brattleboro School of Dance has mounted a production of The Nutcracker ballet, complete with costumes and sets. New to this year’s version is the staging of the mouse and soldier battle. Guest artist Damon Honeycutt drew on his background in circus arts and martial arts to choreograph the scene with the help of Moyse and faculty member Gershon Moore, who is playing the role of the mouse king.
Additional new choreography is provided by Anna Bowler (for the Russian dance), Jamie Gehring (Arabian dance) and Rachel Hebert (Spanish dance). Hebert is also staging Robert Royce’s original choreography for Snow, and Holly Johnson will do the same for Kathi Keller’s Waltz of the Flowers.
