Great jazz show from 1970 at the Festival de jazz de Chateauvallon featuring the Art Ensemble of Chicago. Prepare to go on a sonic journey.
Not sure why Europe reveres jazz from America seemingly more than Americans themselves, but I’m thankful for all of the Italian recordings, and here, French film of groups like this at that time.
The Art Ensemble started in the 1960’s as a project of Roscoe Mitchell, Lester Bowie, and Malachi Favors. Others such as Joseph Jarman and Famadou Don Moye joined later. They have a distinctive, almost signature sound to jazz fans.
